Over its history, ECO has worked with communities for environmental justice in Greater Cincinnati.
Our work began with a Citizen Audit of pollution complaint procedures in Hamilton County. Our review of the lack of progress in government resolving community complaints led to building coaltions to stop pollution at Morton International (which became Rohm & Haas), Cincinnati Specialties and AK Steel Middletown Works. Additional pollution controls were installed at each of these facilities reducing local pollution impacts.
We’e worked to see ozone and particulate standards improved, cleaning up our sewers and setting fair and equitable sewer rates. We made recommendations to decision-makers about the air toxic pollution in the community, promoted increased recycling, environmental enforcement, and reductions in plastic pollution.
